OVERVIEW: The SS-N-25 SWITCHBLADE is a medium-range, sub-sonic, surface-launched, turbo-jet powered solid-fuel anti-ship missile with an active I/J-band radar seeker. It has a 145 kg HE warhead.
DETAILS: After launch, the missile descends to approximately 15 meters, using inertial mid-course guidance. At approximately 20 km from the target, the active radar in the nose is switched on its search mode. After locking onto a target, the missile descends to approximately 2-5 meters and goes into the terminal phase. In the final approach to a target, it decends to 1.5 meters. The missile is reported to have ECCM capability, and is effective up to Sea State 5-6.
NOTES: A containerized version of the missile has been demonstrated, potentially allowing the system to be deployed on merchant vessels. An air launched version is known as the AS-20 KAYAK, and a ground-launched version is known as the SSC-6 STOOGE.
