OVERVIEW: The CBU-105 WCMD (Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser) is an inertially guided, free-falling cluster bomb designed for attacking area targets with anti-armor munitions.
DETAILS: The CBU-105 WCMD was designed to allow the accurate delivery of anti-armor cluster munitions from high altitude. It is effective against land threats such as armored vehicles, missile launchers, radar sites and parked aircraft. SFW also has maritime interdiction capabilities against amphibious vehicles, fast attack boats, hovercraft and small naval vessels. The CBU-105 WCMD is made by mating a 450 kilogram SUU-66/B with a WCMD inertial guidance kit. The WCMD corrects for winds and adverse weather, while guiding the munitions to the target coordinates. Inside the canister are 10 BLU-108/B submunitions (called "smart skeet", each containing four armor-piercing (AP) projectiles. When deployed, the submuntions are lofted over the target area, and the AP projectiles released. When the IR sensor in the AP projectile homes in on heat sources from motorized vehicles, and the explosively formed copper penetrator fires at the heat source. When deployed, the CBU-105 can cover approximately an 152 X 366 meter area.
