OVERVIEW: The AN/ALQ-220 Organic Airborne and Surface Influence Sweep (OASIS) is a helicopter-towed minesweeping device.
DETAILS: Description: The AN/ALQ-220, is a airborne minesweeping system tailored for rotary wing aircraft, and is designed to give carrier and amphibious battlegroup commanders an organic capability to conduct rapid minesweeping missions. The system consists of a towed body, a magnetic/acoustic influence capability, a control/monitoring system under software control and interfaces to the helicopter Carriage, Stream, Tow, and Recovery System and the Common Console.
NOTES: The AN/ALQ-220 is designed to provide organic, high speed magnetic/acoustic influence minesweeping capability where minehunting is not feasible, where mines are difficult to detect, and avoidance of the area is not an option.
