The AS-4 KITCHEN A Mod 1 (Kh-22M) is a long-range, liquid fueled, anti-ship missile with an J-band active radar seeker. The Mod one version used a 930 kg conventional or 350 kt nuclear warhead.
DETAILS: The AS-4 could be fired from both high and low altitude. When fired the missile typically climbed to high-altitude then descended to approximately 1500 feet for the attack phase. The missile used and inertial midcourse guidance.
NOTES: The AS-4 KITCHEN used a liquid fuel consisting of hydrazine and fuming nitric acid. This toxic substance could only be handled by ground crew and protective suits. The Kh-22 was used by the Tu-22M2 and M3 BACKFIRE, the Tu-22 'Blinder-B' and the Tupolev Tu-95 'Bear-G'.
