OVERVIEW: The AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel is a mobile, low-altitude, short-to-medium-range 3-D air surveillance and target acquisition/tracking radar system operating in the X-band.
DETAILS: The AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel is designed to alert and queue Short Range Air Defense (SHORAD) weapons to the locations of hostile aircraft, UAVs or cruise missiles approaching front line forces. It uses an X-band range-gated, pulse-doppler system. The radar automatically acquires, tracks, classifies, identifies and reports targets, including cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, rotary and fixed-wing aircraft. Weapon systems associated with the AN/MPQ-64 include STINGER, AMRAAM and AAA.
