OVERVIEW: AN/UPS-3 Sentry Tactical Defense Alert Radar [TDAR] is a mobile, short range two-dimensional early warning
radar.

DETAILS: The AN/UPS-3 is used for cueing Stinger and Avenger gunners to beyond line-of-sight air targets. The TDAR can be airdropped with the air defense unit and then linked by wire or radio to all air defense units in the area. The TDAR has a short range, and provides a warning of air attack by low-flying aircraft. The time of the warning varies from 1-10 minutes, depending on target air speed. The TDAR can be mounted on a pedestal or in a HMMWV.
