OVERVIEW: AN/FPR-126 is Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) fixed phased array radar designed to provide NORAD with Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment (TW/AA) data on ICBMs and SLBMs. The secondary mission is to provide NORAD with Launch and Impact (L&I) predictions for attack assessment by NORAD.
DETAILS: AN/FPR-126 in the Fylingdales system uses a three-faced phased array for a full 360 degrees of azimuth coverage. The Fylingdales system is part of the larger BMEWS radar network, which dates back to the early 1960s, and includes radars located in Fylingdales, United Kingdom, Thule, Greenland and Clear, Alaska.
